I Love Johnny Appleseed…

Yes it’s true.  I love Johnny. Johnny Appleseed, that is.  And
you should too. Why?  Well, simply put, our pal Johnny spent
most of his life establishing apple nurseries that covered a
good portion of the east coast in the U.S. and as far west as

And if you don’t know by now, apples are good for you.  In fact,
an apple a day may have actually kept the doctor away in Johnny
Appleseed’s era (200 years ago), though with the realities of
our food supply today, it’s not quite that simple anymore.

Still, you would do well to pay close attention to the
importance of eating apples, and regularly.  First off, their
high fiber content keeps you feeling full for quite a while
after eating, and this makes it a great snack or compliment to a
meal.  When was the last time you felt hungry after eating an
good sized apple?

Apples are loaded with antioxidants (flavonoids) that improve
your immune system and fight off heart disease and cancers.
Maybe that’s part of the reason why legend holds that Johnny
never went sick a day in his life.

Apples also come “pre packaged” with the fiber known as pectin,
which reduces high cholesterol and blood sugar, a benefit to
those with heart disease and diabetes.  There’s other good stuff
in there too, like potassium, folic acid, vitamin C, B, iron,
magnesium, and zinc.

And what’s more, when you eat an apple a day, you can throw away
your tooth brush!  OK, not really, but apples do give your gums
a healthy massage and act as nature’s toothbrush with teeth
cleaning properties.

But the apple is just one of the whole natural foods you should
be incorporating as a staple in your daily food intake if you
expect life long health and fitness in a lean and strong body.

In an era where the medical, food, and drug industries have
convinced everybody that taking a pill is the answer to
everything, we’ve lost sight of the fact that we can greatly
reduce our risk for disease and illness by eating the nutrient
rich foods that our body craves.  And we now have a nation of
the most overweight and unhealthy people in our history because
of it.

Like my Fat Burning Furnace students, you can reverse that
trend, and it can start with simply doing like our pal Johnny
Appleseed did.  No, you don’t have travel the country planting
apple seeds, all you have to do is just eat one.
