I’ve been getting a lot of great questions lately about fat
burning and fitness, and I wanted to share a couple of them (and
my answers) with you.
Here’s one I got the other day…
One of the most common questions I get from readers of this
newsletter is in regards to how much a person should weigh, or
what their ideal weight should be.
In fact, I get this question nearly every day from a handful of
new readers…here’s one I got recently:
—————————————————————-
Hi Rob,
I am 38 years old, and just 5′1 inches in height. I’m really
overweight, but not sure what my goal weight should be. I
want to fit into a size 4…I’m in a size 12 now. Can you help?
—————————————————————-
Why is this such a big mystery to people? Okay, there is a
simple answer here, but it’s a two part answer…
When I was a kid one of my friends used to go around cracking a
joke and saying “hey, your epidermis is showing!”. Most kids
had no idea that epidermis simply meant your skin, so you can
imagine that this joke created instant terror in the minds of
some of my childhood friends. Yeah, my buddy even got me with
this one.
But the role your epidermis, or skin, plays in your ability to
burn fat is no laughing matter. In fact, did you know that when
you burn fat, most of it is liminated through your skin? Let
me explain…(please forgive the rudimentary science lesson ;-))
The most important measurement to watch in determining whether
you’re burning fat, or just losing water or lean body mass
weight is that of your relative body fat percentage. Period.
If you don’t get a fairly accurate measurement of this vital
statistic, all sorts of mental guessing games can occur, leading
to more frustration about your progress.
Well, it’s out. This year’s national obesity report for the United States was released a couple of days ago…and here are the results:
-Not even 1 state showed a decline in obesity rate
-31 states showed an increase in obesity rate
Man oh man. It’s not gettin’ any better is it?
It’s true. I smashed my computer…well, not on purpose. See,
a couple of days ago I was on the road at a health and fitness
seminar and was using my trusty laptop…that is until it
slipped out of my hands, crashed to the floor cracking the
screen and rendering the laptop utterly useless.
Here’s a pic of the awful carnage…
I received a question from one of my FBF students the other day
and it was regarding whether or not one could really lose fat
and gain muscle at the same time. Well, since this is a pretty
common question and many people are still unsure about the
answers to it, I thought I’d address it here so e.veryone can
get some sleep tonight ;-).
While I cover this issue in my FBF system, I’d like to share it
with you non-students as well. Whether or not we can burn fat
and build muscle simultaneously has a lot to do with who we are
and more specifically, where we are. Let me explain.
Depending on your experience with resistance training and fat
loss, and your current levels of both, you may or may not be
able to burn fat and build muscle at the same time. Take me for
example…
I was puttering around on the internet this morning and I saw
something that caught my eye. It was the latest data regarding
our current life expectancy as humans from the World Health
Organization, along with a history of how that’s changed over
the years.
This info went all the way back to the Neanderthal period (the
guys from the Geico commercials) up to present day humans.
Those poor Geico guys only lived to be 20 years old on average,
while today’s humans can expect about 75 years of life.
But did you know that today’s people have an average
healthy life expectancy of just 67 years? In other words, this
is saying that you can expect 8 years of your life in poor
health. 8 years! That’s 2900+ days of poor health. I don’t
know about you, but that’s not something I’m looking forward to.
I just got back from a visit to the Dentist where I underwent of
my pleasant bi-annual cleanings. Now, when I was a kid I was
terrified of the Dentist’s office, in fact I ‘white- knuckled
it’ more than I care to admit. But I don’t worry about it
anymore. Why?
Is it because I’ve finally grown up and stopped being a ‘nancy
boy’ about the pain that a little dental drilling can cause?
Nah. The real reason I don’t fear the dentist anymore is
because I have no reason to. You see, the healthy lifestyle
that I’ve been living the past few years has not only resulted
in a lean, strong, and healthy body, but an impeccable dental
record too.
