Is Your Exercise Or Workout Routine Fun? I Hope Not…

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

I hope this message finds you well.  I’m just finishing up a
delicious little stir fry of broccoli, peas, carrots and
chicken with some brown rice.  Man, that was good!

OK, on to the topic of this newsletter…and if you are able
to grasp the concept I explain today 100 percent, you’ll be
so far ahead of most people trying to lose fat and get fit,
it’s almost not fair.

I can’t begin to tell you how many times I hear people say
stuff like “if you want to stick with an exercise program,
it has to be fun!”.

Even some of the leading “experts” (like the guys that go on
Oprah) will say things like that.

Fun?

Really?

I’m here to tell you the truth about that.

While this may be good advice for the extremely sedentary
person who is extremely obese, the truth is this:

If your exercise is fun, it probably isn’t working very
well.

Wait, you know what?  I’m being too gentle here… what I
mean to say is that if you’re having fun exercising, your
exercise routine probably sucks!

Now, look, I’m not saying you can’t go out and do fun
activities…I do it all the time.

I go for bike rides with my kids any chance I get.  That is
fun.

But I don’t make the BIG MISTAKE that most people make in
thinking that these bike rides are “exercise”.

I don’t think this will help me lose fat or get stronger, or
i.ncrease my heart or lung capacity very much.  But, hey
it’s fun!

Yes, I know, technically what I’m talking about is exercise,
but it is so far from exercise that actually produces
results it’s comical.

The problem is we are encouraged by these experts to find
something fun to do, and then are told we can count that as
our exercise.

While this is certainly better than sitting on your butt
watching reality TV all day, fun activities don’t even begin
to compare to what really works.

HERE’S SOMETHING TO BURN INTO YOUR MEMORY:

Productive exercise is hard work.  It’s not fun…at least
not right away.  And it works…like nothing you’ll ever
try.

But after working with thousands of people over the last few
years, I now know that most of us don’t mind 30-60 minutes
of hard work a week.

Why?

Because that is really all the time it takes to get yourself
in your best condition.  Seriously.

In fact, once you start seeing the results that 30-60
minutes each week of proper exercise can give you, you begin
to like this “hard work”…

Feeling the high you get after the workout…it’s tiring but
strangely exhilarating…you’ll see

Knowing you don’t have to go back at it for another couple
of days is…well, the kind of piece of mind you will never
get while running to nowhere on a treadmill every day.

Seeing the results in your workout journal…in your
progress tracker…in your bathroom mirror…

…knowing you’ve found something that you an actually
continue with for the rest of your life…it’s, dare I say
it? Fun!

But don’t take my word for it…try it yourself and let me
know what you think…

If you haven’t already experienced “fun” exercise that gets
results…head on over to this little website:

You and your body will thank me later ;-)

Here’s to getting lean, strong, and healthy for life,

What A Great Question…

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

I just received a kick butt question from a faithful reader of
my newsletter…

…actually, it’s several great questions in one…and I know
many of my other readers have the same questions…so let’s
tackle this one head on together…

Some Unsettling News About My Precious…

Monday, August 13th, 2007

I just got back from a business trip in Austin Texas and I have
some unsettling news.  I dropped my precious new iPhone.  I know
what you’re thinking, “First he broke his laptop, and now he’s
dropped his iPhone…what a klutz!”

Well, regardless of whether I’m klutzy or not, something great
came out of this latest technical mishap…and it has to do with
the power of the Fat Burning Furnace principles I teach, and how
your health can benefit immediately.  Let me explain…

Weapons Of FAT Destruction?

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

In the war against unwanted body fat, one of the key factors
that will determine your success relates to the exercise tools,
or fat burning ‘weapons’ you have at your disposal.

I’d like to provide for you some of the pluses and minuses of
the top two choices of equipment we can use in our resistance
training efforts.  After all, the minute you start thinking
exercise machines are great, along comes someone telling you
they’re junk.

How Slow Can You Go?

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

In one of my previous fat burning and fitness tips I talked
about how to triple your resistance training results by taking
full advantage of your three levels of strength.

A big part of getting those benefits I discussed previously
relates to how you’re performing your repetitions…or more
specifically, how slowly you’re performing those repetitions.

In my Fat Burning Furnace system, I outline what I’ve found to
be the perfect range for repetition speed for almost e.veryone.
I say almost e.veryone because ideal repetition speed depends on
a host of other factors, including individual tolerance for
exercise.  While individual tolerances do vary, most people fall
into a general range that will produce top notch results.

How To Triple Your Resistance Training Results & Lose More Fat

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Do you want to know how to triple your results from your
resistance training? Why wouldn’t you?

Properly conducted resistance training can give you startling
fat loss results, along with muscle and strength gains.  On top
of that, when using the techniques I describe in the Fat Burning
Furnace
system, you’ll also receive “top drawer” cardiovascular
health benefits.  And all from 2-3  workouts each week lasting
just 15-25 minutes on average.

But, you’ve got to do them right, not like the average
resistance trainer is taught these days.  Walk into any fitness
center or gym and you’ll see at least half if not more of the
exercisers performing their workouts in a less than optimal
way…and that’s being kind.

Cardio…Is It Really ‘Dead As A Doorknob’?

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

If you’ve read any of my past newsletters or articles regarding
exercise and its role in burning fat and getting healthy, you
probably already know that I don’t recommend performing cardio
or aerobics.

And I’m not only talking about traditional moderately paced long
duration cardio, but that interval cardio stuff too.  I’m not
saying interval cardio doesn’t work, it does, and I’ll talk
about that a bit later.  But even still, I have a lot of people
angry at me…in fact I get emails almost every day from people
who think I’m nuts for telling them they don’t have to perform
exclusive cardio of any kind.

For Proper Exercise…Get Stuck In The Middle

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

I’m writing to help you find out if you are you stuck in the
middle.  Now what do I mean by that exactly?

No, I’m not talking about the 70’s pop song from the British
folk rockers ‘Stealers Wheel’.  I’m not even talking about
losing abdominal or belly fat.  What I’m talking about is even
more important to your success at fat burning and fitness.

OK, OK, I’ll get to the point.  I’m talking about an important
and often overlooked aspect of resistance training.  By the way,
if you don’t already know, resistance training is the most
important exercise you can do for fat loss, fitness, and overall
health.  But it has to be performed correctly to extract the max
benefits without having to spend your whole week in the gym.
