How To Lose Fat AND Gain Muscle At The Same Time…

By Rob Poulos On May 29, 2007 5 Comments

I’m often asked by FBF readers whether or not you can really lose fat and gain muscle at the same time…

…and there are a LOT of differing opinions on this, so let’s go ahead and get some answers based on my experience and the experience of hundreds of others… sound good?

Whether or not you can burn fat and build muscle simultaneously has a lot to do with who you are and more specifically, WHERE you are.

Let me explain…

…depending on your experience with resistance training and fat loss, and your current levels of both, you may or may not be able to burn fat and build muscle at the same time. Take me, for example…

…I’ve achieved single digit levels of body fat at times and maintain about 12-15% year round. I also have a great deal of experience with proper resistance training and have built a good majority of

Is Your Body Rejecting Vitamins?

By Rob Poulos On May 18, 2007 39 Comments

As you may know, I’m not “big” on most nutritional supplements. In fact, after years of experimentation, I’ve come to know that most of them are either ineffective, overkill, or just a waste of your hard earned money.

And perhaps the most confusing of all supplements is the basic multi-vitamin and mineral.  This is the one supplement that most people recognize as being potentially beneficial to their health, so it’s naturally the one that features so many choices it’s almost dizzying.

Seriously, walk into any health food store, or any drugstore for that matter, and you’ll see a ridiculous amount of choices for one simple multi-vitamin supplement.

Which one is best?

Which ones are garbage?

Which ones have too much of a good thing?

Which ones don’t have enough?

And the questions go on and on in your head if you’ve ever searched for a good multi.

Well, the first thing I can tell you to look

Are You Destined For 8 Years Of Poor Health?

By Rob Poulos On May 12, 2007 No Comments

I was puttering around on the internet this morning and I saw
something that caught my eye.  It was the latest data regarding
our current life expectancy as humans from the World Health
Organization, along with a history of how that’s changed over
the years.

This info went all the way back to the Neanderthal period (the
guys from the Geico commercials) up to present day humans.
Those poor Geico guys only lived to be 20 years old on average,
while today’s humans can expect about 75 years of life.

But did you know that today’s people have an average
healthy life expectancy of just 67 years?  In other words, this
is saying that you can expect 8 years of your life in poor
health.  8 years!  That’s 2900+ days of poor health.  I don’t
know about you, but that’s not something I’m looking forward to.

The Most Important Element In Burning Fat: Your Lifestyle

By Rob Poulos On May 11, 2007 No Comments

A few years ago I had a pal who always struggled with his
weight and would try just about every fad diet or latest
exercise gimmick under the sun to remedy his troubles.  He was a
low carber for a while.  Then he was doing Tae Bo when that was
big.  Next he tried restricting other essential foods in the
hope of burning off body fat.  And a few months later, he was
back to the low carb routine, but this time almost no carbs.

You know the story…he would tell me he’d been losing weight on
his new diet and was all excited about it.  Then a few weeks
later when his body just couldn’t stand the restrictions and
unusual eating habits, he’d be forced to go off that diet.

For Proper Exercise…Get Stuck In The Middle

By Rob Poulos On May 2, 2007 No Comments

I’m writing to help you find out if you are you stuck in the
middle.  Now what do I mean by that exactly?

No, I’m not talking about the 70′s pop song from the British
folk rockers ‘Stealers Wheel’.  I’m not even talking about
losing abdominal or belly fat.  What I’m talking about is even
more important to your success at fat burning and fitness.

OK, OK, I’ll get to the point.  I’m talking about an important
and often overlooked aspect of resistance training.  By the way,
if you don’t already know, resistance training is the most
important exercise you can do for fat loss, fitness, and overall
health.  But it has to be performed correctly to extract the max
benefits without having to spend your whole week in the gym.
